Singing

There is a beauty in the stillness of silence
That cannot be appreciated—
Cannot be appreciated
Until the air on either side has been stirred
Into a frenzy that reaches the ear—
Unless the mind itself can learn to hear
The soft, unspoken words
That echo listlessly like drums in the deep…
Then, finally,
The silence will unfold its meaning,
And you’ll fully appreciate
My wordless tears.
